Backyard BBQ Fails to Avoid this Summer

Nothing can start off a summer like an outdoor cookout with friends, family, and neighbors. There’s nothing quite like the smell of grilled meats and vegetables in the air, as well as the sound of laughter as everyone enjoys good food and company. Unfortunately, for many people attempting to host their very own backyard BBQ, things don’t always go according to plan. While barbecuing isn’t rocket science, it does require some level of skill, patience and attention to detail in order to ensure a successful event. When these elements are missing from the equation, disaster can strike; leaving those hosting the cookout embarrassed and disappointed.

One of the most common mistakes made by amateur BBQ hosts is not properly preparing their charcoal grill before cooking. Charcoal grills need time to heat up and should be left running for at least 10 minutes on high heat before any food is placed on them. If not given enough time to warm up, meats and vegetables can end up sticking or burning prematurely making them unappetizing to eat. Additionally, failing to check if there are enough coals or lighter fluid available when necessary is another mistake that could easily ruin an entire meal if caught too late in the process.

In addition to improper preparation techniques there are also several safety issues that must be taken into consideration while grilling outside. Never store flammable liquids near your cooking area as they have been known to cause unwanted fires or even explosions when combined with open flames or hot surfaces. If a fire should break out it is important to remain calm and take action immediately by covering it with baking soda or sand – never water! Additionally, make sure that you always wear protective clothing such as long sleeves and pants while grilling outside in order maintain safety at all times.

When it comes to grilling food properly there are several tips that every budding chef should follow in order to ensure success. Firstly start off simple when trying out new recipes – this will give you a chance get used to your specific grill setup without feeling overwhelmed by overly complicated recipes or unfamiliar ingredients right away.

Additionally be sure not overfill your grill with too much food at once; this can lead overcrowding of items which can cause flare ups from fat dripping onto hot coals which will release smoke leading flavorless meals at best (and burnt offerings at worst). Lastly temperature control is essential for successful grilling – keep an eye on both internal temperature (using a thermometer) as well as external temperatures (check for charcoal color) so that you do not accidentally overcook anything!

Finally let’s not forget one of the most important aspects of hosting any outdoor gathering: having fun! Make sure everyone has access to icy cold beverages throughout the day while they relax and enjoy each other’s company around the grill – plus don’t forget extra paper plates and utensils so no one gets stuck eating off their lap! As long as you follow these basic guidelines then your backyard BBQ won’t turn into a total fail but instead will be remembered fondly by all who attended!
